I believe that the brain, body, mind and spirit are all intrinsically linked. As such, psychiatric care must address all aspects of our well-being—physical, emotional, social, and spiritual. Working together, we will explore your health through a comprehensive history. The history will guide a treatment plan which may include nutritional interventions, physical exercise, medications, psychotherapy and a deepening of your spiritual life.
As part of the assessment we will look for underlying issues related to genetics, nutrition, and general health which may be contributing to the primary concern. This will be through specialized and basic laboratory tests. The results may suggest the need for targeted dietary solutions, the addition of supplements, or the elimination of a dietary or environmental exposure. Psychiatric medications can be effective in the right person, at the correct dose, for the necessary time. Their use will be made based on a shared decision following a thorough assessment.
We are all complex people with an array of experiences which have formed our view of ourselves, the world and those around us. These views often shape our relationships, daily interactions, and struggles and successes in life. Psychotherapy can help us identify the problem areas of our lives that frequently cause distress. By establishing insight into the areas of our lives that cause the most problems, we can develop actionable plans to bring greater satisfaction to our daily living.
We also need to have a sense of meaning and purpose in our lives. For many this is informed by a belief in God or something transcendent. For others, it is inspired by something more immediate—providing for our family, being a good friend, or doing a good job at work. Along with this, I think it is important to live with a sense of awe and reverence for life and the gift we’ve been given with it. I am not a pastor or spiritual guide, but I will challenge and encourage you to grow your own sense of spirituality. Whether that is walking more firmly in your already established faith, or just beginning to see the world in a spiritual way.
As humans we all suffer. It is my aim to provide a path to healing.
